Niacinamide Explained: What It Does and How to Use It

What is niacinamide?
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 and one of the most researched, well-tolerated ingredients in skincare. It suits nearly every skin type, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.
What it can help with
- Oil balance: helps regulate sebum, which is useful for oily and combination skin.
- Clearer-looking skin: can help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and blemishes.
- Even tone: helps fade the look of dark spots and post-acne marks over time.
- Barrier support: helps strengthen the skin barrier, improving hydration and resilience.
How to use it
Niacinamide is commonly used at 5 to 10%. Apply a serum after cleansing and before moisturiser, in the morning or at night. It layers well with most ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, and sits comfortably under sunscreen during the day.
What to pair it with
Introduce one active at a time. If you also use exfoliating acids or retinol, start slowly and always follow with SPF in the daytime.
